「インマヌエル」
イエスが捕らえられると弟子たちは一人残らず「イエスを置き去りにして逃げ去る」。イエスはその時の来るのをご存じであったが、「然れど我ひとり居るにあらず、父われと偕に在すなり」（ヨハネ16:32 大正文語訳聖書）と語り給うた。イエスは「インマヌエル 神は私とともにおられる」と呼ばれた。（マタイ1:23） 私たちは「インマヌエル」であるお方によって「インマヌエル 神は私とともにおられる」を信じるのである。

「すべては、預言者の預言が成就するためである」とイエスが言われると、弟子たちはイエスを見捨てて逃げ去った。十字架も、弟子たちの逃走も、すべては預言されたことが実現したのである。
イエスは弟子たちに、イエス一人を残して逃げ去ることを告げておられた通りである。

剣を抜いて大祭司の僕マルコスの耳を切り落としたペテロも、いち早くイエスから逃げてしまった。しかし、蜘蛛の子を散らすようにイエスから逃げ出す者をわたしたちは批判することはできない。もっともらしい理屈をもって、人は十字架のイエスから逃げ去るのである。
イエスは復活されると、逃走した弟子たちをひとりひとり見つけ出すように身姿を現わされた。私達はそのように再び見出されて主イエスの弟子になるのである・
