マタイ24:9~14 弟子たちが受ける迫害について語られる。
イエスの十字架と復活の後に、弟子たちはイエスが「キリスト（メシア）」であることを、毎日、宮や家々で教え、信じる者がおこされた。エルサレムの議会はそれを認めず、弟子たちに語ることを禁じた。そして、ステパノの殉教によって教会の対する激しい迫害が起こった。（使徒8:2） しかし、迫害に追われ、散らされながら、御言葉を宣べながら「巡り歩いた」ので、迫害はむしろ宣教拡大の力となったのである。（使徒8:4~8）

人々はイエスの復活を説く弟子たちに「手をかけて迫害をし、会堂や獄に引き渡し、イエス名のゆえに王や総督の前にひっぱって行く」（ルカ21:12）彼らは衆議所に引き渡され、会堂で鞭打たれ、長官や王の前に立たせられる。しかし、それは「イエスについて、あかしをする機会となる」。（ルカ21:12~13）

「迫害と宣教」
ステパノの殉教によってエルサレムの教会の対する激しい迫害が起こった。（使徒8:2） しかし、弟子たちは迫害に追われ、散らされながら、御言葉を宣べながら「巡り歩いた」ので、迫害はむしろ宣教拡大の力となったのである。（使徒8:4~8）迫害は教会拡大のエネルギーになることを知ったこの世は、今度は彼らを保護し、なおかつ無視することにした。今の所この作戦は一部の国で成功している。これもまた、一つの迫害である。

「キリスト者」
キリスト者は諸々の国人に愛されるが、キリストの名の為に「諸々の国人に憎まれる」。愛されるだけの人も、憎まれるだけの人も真のキリスト者とは言えないかもしれない。

「民が民に」、「国が国に」敵対して立ちあがり、飢饉と地震が地を襲う時、教会は激しい迫害を受けるだろう。
イエスの十字架と復活の後に、教会の対する激しい迫害が起こった。（使徒8:2）人々はイエスの復活を説く弟子たちに「手をかけて迫害をし、会堂や獄に引き渡し、イエス名のゆえに王や総督の前にひっぱって行く」（ルカ21:12）彼らは衆議所に引き渡され、会堂で鞭打たれ、長官や王の前に立たせられた。しかし、それは「イエスについて、あかしをする機会となる」のである。（ルカ21:12~13）
教会もまた、イエスの「生みの苦しみ」と無関係ではない。教会は迫害によって地に建ちあがったのである。人間の苦悩と戦いのない教会というものをわたしたちは知らない。問題は迫害でもなく戦いでもない。そこから生み出される「新しいいのち」である。「新しいいのち」を生み出さない陣痛は母体に死の危険をもたらすだろう。
