[彼ら言ふ『カイザルのなり』」] This conclusion is drawn from their own maxims and premises. They held that ‘wherever the money of any king is current, there the inhabitants acknowledge that king for their LORD.’ Now, by admitting that this was Cæsar’s coin, and by consenting to receive it as the current coin of their country, they in fact acknowledged their subjection to his government, and of course their obligation to pay the tribute demanded of them. This answer was full of consummate wisdom, and it completely defeated the insidious designs of his enemies. 人は「カイザル」から受けたら、カイザルに返済する務めがある。受けておきながら、いざ支払いとなると渋るのは昔から人の常である。
神からのものは神に返す人は、人からのものを人に返すことにも同じ喜びを感じるだろう。

イスラエルの民がローマに税金としておさめたデナリ銀貨にはローマ皇帝カイザルの肖像が刻まれ、エルサレム
の神殿に納めたドラクマ銀貨には「律法の巻物のあるエルサレムの神殿」が刻まれていた。
「納めよ ἀποδίδωμ アポディドーミ」は「当然返すべきものを返す」から「返す、返済せよ」の意味である。
イエスは、カイザルのものはカイザルに、神のものは神に返せと言われたのである。
ヨブは「私は裸で母の胎を出た。また裸でそこに帰ろう」という。（ヨブ1:21）

すべてのものは神から来ている。そして、人は「すべてのもの」を神に返すのである。
