会堂管理者ヤイロの信仰をごらんになって、イエスは直ちに立ち上がられ、ヤイロの家に向かわれた。イエスの弟子たちもついて行った。
＜イエス起ちて彼に伴ひ給ふに＞
「立ち上がり ἐγείρω エゲイロー 」は 「起こす、立ち上がる」の意味で、揺り動かされて行動を起こすこと。
イエスは会堂管理者ヤイロの言葉に心を揺さぶられて立ち上がられた。
＜弟子たちも從ふ＞
イエスは直ちに立ち上がり、会堂司ヤイロの家に行かれた。弟子たちも一緒だったが、マルコ、ルカ並行記事によれば「大ぜいの群衆もイエスに押し迫りながら、ついて行った。 マルコ5:24 ところが、イエスが出て行かれる途中、群衆が押し迫ってきた。 ルカ8:42」 口語訳聖書

「イエスの対応」
イエスは百人隊長にはことばをもって応じられたが（マタイ8:5∼13）、男の娘の所には歩いて行かれる。どちらも急を要したが、イエスの対応はいつも同じではない。

「人々の期待」
会堂司ヤイロの家に向かうイエスと弟子たちの後を群衆が従い、その道中にも新たな群衆が加わった。噂は噂を生んだ。不幸からも人はある期待をもってしまう。

会堂管理者ヤイロの家に向かうイエスの周囲には、会堂管理者ヤイロがおり、イエスの弟子たちがおり、群衆がおり、噂を聞いて駆けつける新たな群衆がいた。
不幸な人の周辺には多くの関心が寄せられる。心底心配する人ばかりでなく、事の展開をうかがうだけの野次馬のような人々がいる。
会堂管理者ヤイロの家に近づけば、気の早い近隣の者たちが葬儀の手配や泣き女たちを集めるために右往左往するのが見られたろう。
一人の人間の不幸には様々な立場の違う反応が寄せられる。それは人間社会のどこにでもある、見慣れた光景かもしれない。
しかし、それは人の心に生起する、背反する感情として一人の人の中に凝縮されてあると言わざるを得ない。
人の心には不幸に身を切られるような思いがありながらも、同時に、その顛末に物見するような醒めた思いがあることを否定できるだろうか。
しかし、一種の華やいだ軽薄とも言える群衆が従ってくるのをイエスは咎めることもなさらずヤイロの家に向かわれている。イエスの目はまっすぐ、死につつあるヤイロの娘に注がれている。
人の心に行き来する思いを鎮めるのは、この時のイエスの眼差しである。
