弟子たちが復活のイエスを伝えることは命がけであった。宣教にたじろがない者はいない。命の危険がなくてもためらうのである。「視よ、我は世の終まで常に汝らと偕に在るなり」という言葉を聞くまでは、動けない。

「最後の一日」
最後の一日に、何をしても許されるとしたら、その24時間をどう過ごすだろうか。やり残したことを心おきなくやりたいという考えもある。ある人は「普通のことを普通にしたい。それが本当の私らしいことだから」と言う。また、ある人は「その日には、庭に一本の林檎の木を植える」と言った。最後の一日であれ、今日の一日であれ、同じかもしれない。

「全世界に出てゆき、すべての国民に福音伝え、あなたがたに伝えられた福音のことばをすべて守るように教えよ。見よ、わたしは世の終りまで、いつもあたがたたと共にいる」とイエスは弟子たちに語られた。
イエスが弟子たちに命じたことは、「キリストは苦しみを受けて、三日目に死人の中からよみがえる。そして、その名によって罪のゆるしを得させる悔改め」であり、それは「エルサレムからはじまって、もろもろの国民に宣べ伝えられる」べきであり、弟子たちは「これらの事の証人」であり、その為に「見よ、わたしの父が約束されたものを、あなたがたに贈る。だから、上から力を授けられるまでは、あなたがたは都にとどまっていなさい」という命令であった。（ルカ24:46~49 口語訳聖書）

イエスは「そう言って、彼らに息を吹きかけて仰せになった、『聖霊を受けよ。あなたがたがゆるす罪は、だれの罪でもゆるされ、あなたがたがゆるさずにおく罪は、そのまま残るであろう』。
マタイは「視よ、我は世の終まで常に汝らと偕に在るなり」をもって福音書を閉じる。マタイはインマヌエル（神は私達と共におられる）（マタイ1:22）をもってイエスの誕生を告げ、「世の終まで常に汝らと偕に在る」との約束をもって彼の福音書をを閉じる。福音書は福音のよきおとずれであるとともに、従う者に始まる新しいいのちそのものである。
