「神殿の垂れ幕」は聖なるものと俗なるもの、神と人を区別する「幕」であった。イエスの十字架とともに、エルサレム神殿の幕は「上から下まで真っ二つに裂け」、神と人の間にあった「隔ての壁」は壊された。

「神の宮」
イエスの十字架によって、エルサレム神殿の「隔ての幕」は真っ二つに避けて落ちた。この時より、聖と俗の人間を隔てるすべての「まがき」は取り払われた。ユダヤ人も異邦人もキリストによって一つの御霊によって神のみもとに近づき、ともに成長して「主にある聖なる宮」となり、御霊によって「神の御住まい」となるのである。

「十字架のイエス」
「イエスを十字架につけよ」と叫ぶ群衆の間には、奇妙な興奮があったかもしれない。奇跡のキリストが、より大きな奇跡を起こすのではないかという暗い期待である。ラザロを死から甦らせられたイエスは、どのようなまばゆい光をもって十字架を真っ二つに引き裂かれたことだろうか。
