イエスが十字架にかかられたその瞬間にエルサレムの神殿は「打ち壊された」のである。そして「三日の後に」イエスは甦られ、新しい「神の神殿」が建てられる。人々がイエスに浴びせた「罵り」の言葉は、そのまま「成就」するのである。

「新しい神殿」
「宮を毀ちて三日のうちに建つる者よ、もし神の子ならば己を救へ、十字架より下りよ」 マタイ27:40 大正文語訳聖書
「言った、『神殿を打ち壊して三日のうちに建てる者よ。もし神の子なら、自分を救ってみろ。そして十字架から降りて来い』」 フランシスコ会訳聖書
イエスの十字架に集まった人々は、十字架のイエスに「神殿を打ちこわして三日のうちに建てる者よ。もし神の子なら、自分を救え。そして十字架からおりてこい」と罵りの声を上げた。「十字架からおりてきて自分を救え」 （マルコ15:30 口語訳聖書）というのである。
人々は十字架上のイエスが、その偉大な力によって自ら十字架から降りて、自分たちの前に立ってみせるという「奇跡」を起こしてみろとそそのかす。彼らはイエスが十字架から降りられないことこそが「奇跡」であることを知らない。イエスは十字架から三日目に死から甦られ、古い神殿は毀たれ、新しい「神の神殿」が建てられる。人々がイエスに浴びせた「罵り」の言葉は、そのまま「成就」するのである。
