「煽動される罪」
群衆が凶悪な犯罪者バラバを釈放し、イエスを処刑せよと要求したのは、祭司長、長老たちによる「煽動」の結果であった。しかし、煽動による叫びにも人は責任を負わなければならない。たとえ叫ぶ群衆の列に加わらず無言でいたとしても、また無関心からその声を無視したとしても、同じ責任を負う。「煽動された者」であることに変わりはない。

総督ピラトが、群衆に向かって「凶悪な犯罪者バラバとメシアと呼ばれるイエスの、どちらを釈放してほしいのか？」と言うと、祭司長たちに扇動された群衆は「バラバを！」と叫んだ。総督ピラトには予想外の反応だった。
もはや、イエスを処刑しようとする祭司長や民の長老たちの意志は、ユダヤの民を動かし、総督ピラトをもってしても止めようがないところに来た。イエスの説かれた福音のことばも、なされた数々の業も、煽動された民の叫びに呑み込まれてしまった。
人間の信仰も理性も、かくも頼りなく貧しい。この魂と霊の貧しさがイエスを十字架につけた。しかし、その十字架によって貧しい霊と魂は救われるのである。
