祭司長たちに冷たく突き放されるとユダは、銀貨30枚を神殿の聖所に投げ込んで出て行き、外で首をくくって死んだ。

祭司長、長老たちに受け取りを拒まれたユダは「銀貨30枚」を神殿に投げ込んで、そこを去った。
神殿に入ることができるのは祭司のみである。（出エジプト29:44）しかし、ユダは掟を破って、自ら神殿に踏み込み、神殿を汚した。
＜ゆきて自ら縊れたり＞
外に走り出たユダは首を吊って死んだ。しかし、ユダの体は木から「真っ逆さまに落ち、真っ二つに裂け、はらわたが全部飛び出てしまった」（使徒1:28 新改訳聖書）。

ユダが神殿に「銀三十枚」を投げ込んだことは、ユダの「銀三十枚」へのこだわりを示すものであろう。しかし、ユダの間違いは「銀三十枚」を受け取ったことにあるのではない。罪を犯す人は、しばしば罪の本質を知らない。

「ユダの死」
ユダは何一つ解決することなく自死してしまう。ユダがなすべきことは自死することではなく、苦しみのいのちを生きることであった。

「氷の冷たさ」
ダンテの「神曲」地獄篇では、地獄の最下層の第九圏は恩人に反逆行為を働いたものが、逆さまに氷の中に閉じ込められるところで、その高いところにイスカリオテのユダが最大の刑罰を受けている。
裏切者は「コキュートス Cocytus 嘆きの川」で首まで氷に漬かり、その寒さに涙も凍る。だが裏切る者は地獄に行くまでは、その冷たさに気づくことがない。

祭司長、長老たちに受け取りを拒まれたユダは「銀貨30枚」を神殿に投げ込んで、そこを去った。
