夕刻になるとイエスは食卓につかれ、弟子たちも共に席についた。イエスは弟子たちに「わたしは苦しみを受ける前に、あなたがたとこの過越の食事をしようと、切に望んでいた。あなたがたに言って置くが、神の国で過越が成就する時までは、わたしは二度と、この過越の食事をすることはない」（ルカ22:14~16）と言われ、パンをとり、賛美をささげてそれを裂き弟子たちに与えられた。
「賛美を捧げる εὐλογέω エウろゲオー」は「神をほめたたえる、祝福する、感謝する、聖別する、賛美する」の意味である。
＜取って食べなさい。これはわたしの体である＞
イエスはパンを裂き、弟子たちに与えられ、「取って食べなさい。これはわたしの体である」と言われ、「わたしを記念するため、このように行いなさい」（ルカ22:19）と告げられた。これにより教会は「イエスの十字架と復活により、罪に死んで、新しいいのちに生きる」ことを「聖餐式」としてあらわし、イエスとの交わりを記憶した。
＜セナークル共同体＞
イエスが十二人の弟子たちと最後の晩餐をとった広間を「セナークル」と言う。ロマン主義派の人々が様々な「セナークル」に属したことから「セナークル共同体」と呼ばれている。元々は「使徒の共同体」のことである。

「主の聖餐」
聖餐式におけるパンはイエスの裂かれた御体を、ぶどう酒は流された御血を意味している。キリスト者は互いにイエスの御体を賛美とともにいただき、十字架の死と復活にあずかる者である。われらはイエスにおいて一つである。

「悔い改め」
「宣しきに適はずして主のパンを食し、主の酒杯を飮む者は主の體と血とを犯す」（Ⅰコリント11:27）のである。したがって、「聖餐」にあずかるものは、「みづから省み、罪を悔い改めて後」（Ⅰコリント11:28）聖餐にあずかるのである。

イエスはパンを裂き、弟子たちに与えられ、「取って食べなさい。これはわたしの体である」と言われ、「わたしを記念するため、このように行いなさい」（ルカ22:19）と告げられた。
このときイエスは裂かれたパンをイスカリオテのユダにもお与えになられた。ユダはやがて十字架に引き裂かれるイエスの御身体を象徴する「聖餐」を受け取ると、すぐにイエスをローマ兵に引き渡すために出て行った。時は「夜」であった。（ヨハネ13:26~30）
イエスは十字架にかかられる前に、弟子たちと過越の食事をすることを切望されていた。その中にはイスカリオテのユダも含まれていた。イエスは弟子たちやユダの裏切りの罪のために、贖いとしての過越のパンを裂かれ、一人一人に与えられたのである。
