現在、エルサレムのシオン門の近くに「鶏鳴の聖ペテロ教会 The Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu （Gallicantuは、ラテン語で「おんどりの鳴き声」の意味）」が建てられており、教会の地下に地下牢と思われる洞窟が発見され、ここが大祭司カヤパの公邸であり、捕らえられたイエスが一晩抑留されたところとされている。鶏鳴の聖ペテロ教会の脇にカヤパの公邸跡とされる住居跡が発掘されている。

「計画」
イエス処刑の計画は密かに綿密になされた。逮捕から処刑までに必要な情報が集められ組み立てられた。
この時、イエスがエルサレムから立ち去られたら彼らの計画は実現しなかっただろう。しかし、イエスは彼らの描くシナリオの中に入っていかれる。だが、彼らは自分たちの知らないさらに大きな計画のなかで「自分たちが描かれている」ことを知らない。「ヱホバはその定めたまへることを成し いにしへより其命じたまひし言を果したまへり」 哀歌2:17 明治元訳聖書

祭司長・民の長老らが大祭司カヤパの公邸の中庭に集まったのは、「立ち話」のためなどではない。それは非公式ながらもサンヘドリン（ユダヤ議会）が招集されたのである。今やイエスの十字架はユダヤ最高議会の決議として動き出したのである。ここにイエスの十字架はユダヤ最高議会の認めるところなったのである。
