「微塵の行為」
「いと小さき者」を漢訳聖書は「㣲者」と訳す。「㣲（微）」は「微塵」である。水中にわく「ミジンコ」は「微塵子」と書くように「目に見えないほどに小さなチリのような人」をさず。「ミジンコのような存在」があるのではない。私たちのなす人への好意はすべて「微塵の行為」にすぎない。しかし、神はそれらを「わたしにしたこと」として記憶される。

「いと小き者のために」
これまでに、何と多くの人々が「いと小き者の一人である私」にしてくれたことだろう。私は彼らについて主と語らう時のくるのを楽しみにしている。

「王こたへて言はん『まことに汝らに告ぐ、わが兄弟なる此等のいと小き者の一人になしたるは、即ち我に爲したるなり』」 マタイ25:40 大正文語訳聖書
「すると王は答えて言う、『あなた方によく言っておく。これらのわたしの兄弟、しかも最も小さな者の一人にしたことは、わたしにしたのである』」 フランシスコ会訳聖書
すると王は玉座の右に分けられた人々に「あなたがたによく言っておく。わたしの兄弟であるこれらの最も小さい者のひとりにしたのは、すなわち、わたしにしたのである」と答えた。
「いと小さき者 ἐλάχιστος エらきストス」は「μικρός 小さい」の最上級で「問題にならないくらい小さい、とるに足りない、つまらない」の意味である。
人が隣人にした小さな善意はなんでも、「小さき者の兄弟なる王」にしたのである。神は「問題にならないくらい小さい者への問題にならないくらい小さい善意」を「あなたがたは、わたしが空腹のときに食べさせ、かわいていたときに飲ませ、旅人であったときに宿を貸し、裸であったときに着せ、病気のときに見舞い、獄にいたときに尋ねてくれたからである」とみなされるのである。しかし、玉座の右に分けられらた人々は、「問題にならないくらい小さい者への問題にならないくらい小さい善意」に対しても「いつ私がそのようなことをしましたか？」と言わずにはいかなっただろう。
マリヤと共に「わたしは主のはしためです。お言葉どおりこの身に成りますように」ルカ1:38（口語訳聖書）と告白するしかない。
