神が「一夜の宿を探す旅人、衣を剥がれた裸の人」の姿をとられて私のところに来られたというのではない。人は「一夜の宿を探す旅人、衣を剥がれた裸の人」以外の何者でもない貧しき者への行為の中で神に出会うのである。

イエスは言われた。「狐には穴があり、空の鳥には巣がある。だが、人の子には枕する所もない。」
イエスは三年間の公生涯を通して、「宿のない旅人」のようであった。「衣を剥がれた裸の人」のごとくに神の福音を伝えて地を巡られたのである。かく、人々は神より遣わされたメシアを受け入れることはなかったのである。
しかし、王位の座につかれた主人は「あなたがたは、私が旅人であったときに宿を貸し、裸であったときに着せてくれた」と玉座の右に分けられた人々に言うのである。人々は恐れずに聞いていることができるだろうか？
王は自分たちの冷たい態度に怒っておられるのではないかと人々は考えたに違いないのである。
だが、そのように語る王に、怒りの表情は伺えなかったのである。
