救いを求める人は、「終わりの日に屋上にいる人が家にある物を取り出そうとして下に降りたりせずに」その場から走り出すように、イエスの元に走り寄れ。その前に一仕事してからなどと考えてはいけない。

「遠くを見る人」
その日、男は屋根の上にいた。そして遠くにローマ軍が迫るのを見た。それで男はただちに「屋根の道」を伝わって町の外に逃れたのだ。「屋根の上の人」は「遠くを見る人」である。

「家にある物を取り出そうとして屋根から下に降りてはならない」のは、危機が目前に迫っているからである。
「時」を見分けることができないと、判断を誤る。

イエスのことばは、イスラエルの民にはローマ帝国のエルサレム包囲という危機が迫るなかで語られたものである。それはAD70年のエルサレム陥落へのメッセージだけではない。「終末の終りの日」に関するメッセージであることを忘れてはならない。
その日に、「屋上にいて」遠くに迫りくる「終わり」を見るものは、直ちに「終わりの外に逃げよ」と語られる。「終わりの日」には、逃れるべき「終わりの外」がある。日常に「終わりの日のしるし」を見た者は、直ちに「終わりの外に出る」行動を起こさなければならない。
