集まったパリサイ派の中で「彼らの中のひとりの律法学者が（仲間の者たちが互に論じ合っているのを聞き、またイエスが巧みに答えられたのを認めて（マルコ12:28）、イエスをためそうとして質問した。

「一人の教法師」は「νομικὸς」と呼ばれる「律法学者」で律法の専門家であった。
＜イエスを試むる爲に問ふ πειράζων αὐτόν＞
マタイ22:34~40の「最も重要な戒め」はルカ並行記事とはイエスと律法学者のやりとりに幾らかの差異がある。
マタイは律法学者がエスに「律法の中で、たいせつな戒めはどれですか」と尋ね、イエスが「『心をつくし、精神をつくし、力をつくし、思いをつくして、主なるあなたの神を愛せよ』。また、『自分を愛するように、あなたの隣り人を愛せよ』とあります」と答えられている。
ルカは律法学者がイエスに「先生、何をしたら永遠の生命が受けられましょうか」と尋ねたのに対して、イエスは「律法にはなんと書いてあるか。あなたはどう読むか」と逆に質問され、律法学者が「『心をつくし、精神をつくし、力をつくし、思いをつくして、主なるあなたの神を愛せよ』。また、『自分を愛するように、あなたの隣り人を愛せよ』とあります」と答え、イエスは「あなたの答は正しい。そのとおり行いなさい。そうすれば、いのちが得られる」と語られている。（ルカ10:25~28 口語訳聖書）
「試そうとして ἐπερωτάω エペロータオー」は「尋ねる、問いかける」の意味で、信仰の基本的行為である。

「律法に精通した者」
律法学者は律法の専門家としての立場からイエスを試みようとする。彼らは「律法に精通した者」である。
「精通」の「精」は「米」と「青」と書き「きれいについた米」をあらわし「まじりけのない、純粋」を意味する。律法学者は律法の専門家であったが、律法を「まじりけなく、純粋に知る」人々ではなかった。彼らは知ることを熱心に求めたが、知ったことを実行に移すことに関心がなかった。

「試みる者」
イエスを試みるのは異教徒ではない。最も熱心な反対者はその教えに近い人々から出る。
サタン(試みる者 マタイ4:3 Ⅰテサロニケ3:5）ほどイエスを知り、かつ恐れるものはいない。

集まったパリサイ派の中で「彼らの中のひとりの律法学者が（仲間の者たちが互に論じ合っているのを聞き、またイエスが巧みに答えられたのを認めて（マルコ12:28）、イエスをためそうとして質問した。「一人の教法師」は「νομικὸς」と呼ばれる「律法学者」で律法の専門家であった。
「試そうとして ἐπερωτάω エペロータオー」は「尋ねる、問いかける」で、神の御心、考え、意図について知ることを求める信仰の基本的行為である。しかし、「ἐπερωτάω エペロータオー」は「尋ねる、問いかける」の他に「試す、誘惑する」という意味にも用いられる。この律法学者はイエスを貶めようとして「探りを入れた ἐπερωτάω エペロータオー」のである。「深い信仰」は、神を否定するためにも働くのである。
