＜群衆これを聞きて其の教に驚けり＞
群衆はサドカイ派の人々に対するイエスの言葉を聞いて「その教えに驚いた」。ルカは律法学者のうちのある人々が「先生、仰せのとおりです」と答えたことを伝えている。（ルカ20:39）。それで律法学者とは相容れない信仰のサドカイ派の人々は「それ以上何もあえて問いかけようとしなかった」（ルカ20:40）のである。群衆はイエスの教えにも、サドカイ派と律法学者のやりとりにも「驚いた」のだろう。
＜驚けり＞
「驚く ἐκπλήσσω エクプれースソー」は「 ἐκ ＋ πλήσσω 打つ」から来ている。「打ちのめされ、驚愕する」の意味である。祥訳聖書は「驚嘆した＜〔うれしい〕驚きに満たされた＞。」と訳す。

「驚き」
「驚く ἐκπλήσσω エクプれースソー」は「 ἐκ ＋ πλήσσω 打つ」から来ている。「打ちのめされ、驚愕する」の意味である。現代、人は情報を瞬時に見るが、それに打ちのめされ「驚く ἐκπλήσσω エクプれースソー」ことがなくなってしまった。驚愕すべき光景も、痛みを伝えることがなくなる。そうしていられる自分に「驚く」。

「群衆の信仰」
群衆も神のことばに「驚愕」する。だが、従うのではない。その教えに「打ちのめされる」ほどに感動したが指一本動かそうとはしない「群衆の信仰」である。餓えた者が目の前のパンに感動するだけですむだろうか？

「私の神」
自分の周囲に人を見出せないのは寂しい。人は一人でいるよりも群衆の雑踏の中に身を置くと安心する。しかし、神は「アブラハムの神、イサクの神、ヤコブの神」である。神が「私の神」となられるには私もアブラハムのように群衆から離れ、一人神に向かわなければならない。神との出会いは人との新たな出会いに導かれるだろうしかし、それによって神が「私の神」であることはさらに深まるのである。
