「からし種 σίναπι シナピ」西アジアの「くろからし brassica nigra」とされる
一年生草木であるが、成長すると3~4ｍになり「木」とみなされた。黒色の種子からは油も絞れる。
種を採取するにはさやが充分に枯れ割れ黒い種が見えるころに枝ごと切り取って叩けばよい。ゴミは風で吹き分ける。

「信仰薄き者」
イエスは弟子たちが悪霊を追い出せなかったのは「信仰が薄い」からだと言われる。
「信仰が薄い ὀλιγόπιστος オリゴピストス」は「ὀλίγος 小さい ＋ πίστις 信仰」で信仰が薄い（小さい）こと。
「オリゴ糖」という言葉はギリシャ語「ὀλίγος オりゴス 小さい」から来たもので、ブドウ糖や果糖などこ以下に分けられない糖が2~10個結びついたものの総称である。
網も老いた両親もおいてイエスに従った弟子たちの信仰も、これ以下に分けられないほどに小さい。人はイエスのために自分が捨てたものを見るが、イエスはその人の持てるものを御覧になる。

「からし種一粒」
「からし種」はカラシ科の植物の種で、微小なもの。片手に数百粒を盛ることができる。その「一粒」ほどの信仰があれば、とイエスは言われる。

「山を移す」
「この山に向かって、『ここから、あそこに移れ」と命じても、そのとおりになる』」ある説教者がそれを試みた男の話をした。
「ある男がマタイ17:20を読み、日ごろから家の裏にある陽を遮る「山」に悩まされてきた男は、その晩床に就く前に『ここから、あそこに移れ』と祈った。翌朝、山は移ったか、期待に胸を膨らませて、戸を開けてみると、山は微動だにせずそこにあった。男は『やはり、ね』と小さくつぶやいた」
この説教者は山が移らなかった原因は男のつぶやき（不信仰）にあると説教した。
しかし、たとえ男が、いかにかたく信じ、つぶやきももらさなかったとしても、山は移らない。この説教者はまず自分が山を移し、それから説教すべきである。

「山は移る」
「ピッチの滴下試験」というのがある。ピッチ (Pitch 樹脂)は水の230億倍の粘度を持つ黒色で粘弾性のある樹脂で、硬いハンマーで叩くと砕けるが、長時間では流動性のある液体である。
1927年、オーストラリアのクイーンズランド大学のThomas Parnell教授が「Pitch Drop Experimentピッチの滴下試験」を開始し現在も続行中である。
漏斗にピッチを注ぎ、三年間寝かせて安定させた後、1930年に漏斗の封を切った。その後大粒の滴が10年に1滴程度落ちている。最初の一滴が落ちたのは1938年であった。

Thomas Parnell教授は1948年に亡くなったが、その後も実験は引き継がれている。しかし実際にピッチがボトッと落ちる瞬間はまだ誰も目撃した者がいないのだという。
時間を短縮すれば、「ピッチ」は水のように「流れる」のが観察されるだろう。
我々の「大陸」も地球のプレートに乗って「動いて」いる。「山」も動く。
宇宙に存在するもので動かないものはない。
「動かないもの」も、実は常に動くものの上にあることを認識しなければならない。「運動」はいのちの本質である。
人間もまた、この「運動」の中にあって「運動」そのものである。だが、人間は「運動」の原因ではない。

イエスが教えられるのは「祈れば山も移せる」ことではない。
祈りには動かぬものも動かす力があるということである。祈りに「能はぬこと無かるべし」である。
