男は「セれーニアゾマイ」を患う息子を連れて来ていた。弟子たちに息子を見せたが、イエスの弟子たちは男の息子を癒すことができなかった。

父親は息子の病が、悪霊によるものと信じていた。それで息子をイエスの所に連れてきたが、そこにはイエスはおられなかったので、弟子たちに「この霊を追い出してくださるように」と願ったが弟子たちには悪霊を追い出すことは「できなかった」。（マルコ9:18）

「癒しの手」
父親はイエスのところに連れて来たのであろう。しかし、イエスは不在であった。そこで、弟子たちに直して欲しいと訴えたのである。弟子たちは試みたが息子の病を癒すことはできなかった。
今も、人々は「イエスの弟子たち」に「手を置いて祈ってください」と訴える。しかし、間違ってはならない。病を癒すのは「神」であって「人」ではない。「癒しの手」をもつ人間など一人として存在しないし、神の代理を務める人間など一人もいない。あなたに接近して頭に手を置きたがる者を信じてはならない。

「イエス不在」
イエス不在中の訴えに、弟子たちは自分たちで判断して子どもを癒そうとしたのかもしれない。弟子たちの中にもイエスは不在であった。
人の祈りに答えて神が病を癒されることがある。しかし、それは「いつも」ではない。
「祈りさえすれば病も癒える」と信じたとき、彼の中でイエスは「不在」となるのである。

男は息子の病が、悪霊によるものと信じていた。それで息子をイエスの所に連れてきたが、そこにはイエスはおられなかったので、弟子たちに「この霊を追い出してくださるように」と願ったが弟子たちには悪霊を追い出すことは「できなかった」。（マルコ9:18）
弟子たちは祈ることはできるが、病を癒すのは神であって、人ではない。
また、「病を癒す祈りのできる力ある弟子」がいるというのでもない。イエスの弟子はみな同じ「祈る人」である。
ヨブの友たちは神の真実を語らなかった。ヨブが不実な友のために「祈った」ところ、神はヨブの祈りを受け入れられ「ヨブを元通りにし、ヨブの所有物は二倍となった。
「ヨブがその友人たちのために祈ったとき、主はヨブの繁栄をもとにかえし、そして主はヨブのすべての財産を二倍に増された」 ヨブ42:10 口語訳聖書
ヨブは神にかなう「祈り」をし、神はヨブを癒されたのである。
