キリスト ヘブライ語「םָשִׁיחַ メシーハー mashiyach {maw-shee’-akh}」、アラム語の「メシアーハー」のギリシャ名で「油そそがれた者、メシア」の意味
「油そそぎ」は王や大祭司の任職式に行なわれた。（Ⅰサムエル10:1、出エジプト30:22~30「聖なるそそぎ油」（出エジプト30:25）と呼ばれ、「油そそがれたもの」は聖なるものとされた。（出エジプト30:29）

これらの重要な信仰の経験の後に、イエスは弟子たちにご自分がキリスト（メシア）であることを誰にも告げてはならないと戒められた。
＜弟子への戒めと教え＞
イエスは弟子たちに「自分がキリストであることをだれにも言ってはいけない」と戒められ、また「人の子は必ず多くの苦しみを受け、長老、祭司長、律法学者たちに捨てられ、また殺され、そして三日目によみがえる」（ルカ9:21~22）ことを告げられた。

「危機近し」
イエスと弟子たちに十字架の危機が近づいていた。イエスは弟子たちに「己がキリストなる事を誰にも告ぐな」と戒められる。その目的は告発する者から弟子たちを守るためであった。人は何もかもが終わったと感じると危機に飛び込んで行きたくなる。しかし、そうした者ほど、いざ危機が訪れると直ちに逃げる。

これらの重要な信仰の経験の後に、イエスは弟子たちにご自分がキリスト（メシア）であることを誰にも告げてはならないと戒められた。
イエスは弟子たちに「自分がキリストであることをだれにも言ってはいけない」と戒められ、さらに「人の子は必ず多くの苦しみを受け、長老、祭司長、律法学者たちに捨てられ、また殺され、そして三日目によみがえる」（ルカ9:21~22）ことを告げられた。
「自分がキリストであること」は、十字架に殺され、三日目によみがえることによって預言されたメシアの業は完成するとイエスは考えておられた。それらの険しいメシアの道をゆかれるイエスは、ことが成就するまで弟子たちに「御自分がメシアであることをだれにも話さないように」と厳しく命じられたのであろう。
「メシアの道」は何人といえどもかかわることのできない神の子イエスだけが歩まれる道であった。
