群衆の食事が終わると、弟子たちは余ったパンと魚を拾い集めた。それは「七つの籠」に一杯になった。
＜七つの籠＞
この「籠 σπυρίς ㇲプゆりㇲ」は「葦で編んだ手提げ籠」のことで「魚籠」に用いられた。マタイ14章の「五つのパンと二匹の魚」のときは「κόφινος コふィノス」で「食事を入れる手提げ籠」だった。マタイはパンを集めた「籠」の違いまで正確に観察し、記憶している。

「籠を腰に」
七つの小さきパンから四千人のパンを出すお方が、腰に籠を抱えて、食べ残しのパン屑を丹念に拾い集めて人々の間を歩きまわられる。これもまた偉大なる業である。

「残りのパン屑」
農家の自家用畑では食べきれなくて子どもの腕ほどに大きくなったキュウリが畝に捨てられる。一度に沢山とれるキュウリは、仲間の農家でも敬遠される。もらってくれる人がいないと「ほかる」しかないのだ。
「パン屑」は集めるよりも、集めたものをどうするかの方が難しい。
旧約聖書は畑の麦は貧しい人のために一部を刈り残し、落穂を残しておくように教えた。（レビ１９：９～１０）
しかし、他人を自由に畑に入らせ「落穂ひろい」をさせることが簡単ではないことはすぐにわかる。
それでイエスは食事の度に「残りのパン屑」を集められるのである。

群衆の食事が終わると、弟子たちは余ったパンと魚を拾い集めた。それは「七つの籠」に一杯になった。

美味しいところだけを食べて、満足していてはいけない。
食後、集めるべき「パンくず」が残されている。
