＜イエス群衆に命じて地に坐せしめ＞
「七つのパンと小さな魚」を受け取られたイエスは人々を地面に座るように命じられた。
＜イエス群衆に命じて地に坐せしめ＞
「地に座る ἀναπίπτω アナピプトー」は「横になる、後ろに身を反らせる」で、ローマの正式な食事の作法だった。ローマでは食事は床に身を横たえてなされた。
＜「最後の晩餐」の食事風景＞
サンタ・マリア・デッレ・グラツィエ教会にあるレオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチの「最後の晩餐」では、白いテーブルクロスのかけられた横に長い一本の机にイエスと十二人の弟子たちが現代と変わらぬかたちで席につく光景が描かれている。このような形で食餌を摂るのは後世になってからのことである。
十字架につかれる直前にイエスと弟子たちは、床に横になるかたちで最後の晩餐をとられたのであろう。

「我らの食卓」
荒地であれ、野原であれ、イエスが「横になれ」と言われたところが我らの「食卓」である。どんな所でもきちんと座れ。主の食卓である。

人には生涯の記憶に残る食事がある。ガリラヤの丘でイエスの手からパンを食した人々は、この日の食事を生涯わすれることはなかったろう。
私は昭和三十八年、一人で聖書学塾に入学した。ここから聖書学塾のある町に入るという所で、利根川の流れを見ながら持参した甘食パンを三つ食べた。「へそパン」という甘食は私の唯一の贅沢な食物で、献身すれば口にすることはかなわないだろうから、その町に入る手前の地点で心置きなく食べようという意地汚い話である。
以来、牧師になった今も三角の甘食パンは私を献身の地点に連れ戻してくれる忘れがたい食物である。

「地に座る ἀναπίπτω アナピプトー」は「横になる、後ろに身を反らせる」で、ローマの正式な食事の作法だった。ローマでは食事は床に身を横たえてなされた。
イエスは人々に家で食事をとるときの姿勢をするように命じられたのである。
集まった人々の中に、「五千人の給食」（マタイ14:16~21）の話を知らない人はいなかったろう。それどころか、群衆の中の少なからぬ人々が、「五千人の給食」（マタイ14:16~21）のパンと魚を食していたに違いない。
群衆はあのときと同じような状況に、ある期待が高まり、奇跡をなされるイエスを見ようと心を高ぶらせていた。
しかし、イエスはそのような人々を整然と地に座らせ、常の家での夕食のつつましい姿勢をとるように促されるのである。
異様な心の高まりが「信仰」であるかのように思うべきではない。
神の業がなされるところでは常に平静な秩序が保たれる。
