「心にたこ」
イエスとペテロが舟に乗り込むと風はおさまり、荒れた海は静かになった。弟子たちは非常に驚いた。
驚きは不信仰から来た。数時間前のパンの奇跡にもかかわらず、「その心が鈍くなっていた」からである。
「鈍い pwro,w ポーロオー」は「皮膚にできたたこ」のことで「無感覚で鈍い」を意味する。
心に「たこ」ができると、何事にも無感覚になり、やたらと驚くが的がはずれている。

「安心、平安、平穏、無事、平静、安寧」は、イエスとともにある者に常にもたらされる祝福である。

「十字架という木」
聖フランシスが自分の故郷に滞在中に、一人の女が井戸で水を汲み上げるのを見た。女はバケツをおろして水を汲み上げる度に小さな木切れ一つをバケツの中に投げ入れていた。理由を聞いたところ、こうすれば水の揺れを防ぎ、水が外にこぼれるのが最小限で済むという。
その説明を聞き感銘を受けた聖フランシスは、友人に宛てて、このような内容の手紙を送ったという。
「私たちは、日々どれほど揺れる心の水槽を持っているのだろうか？ 恐れで揺れる心、苦痛と絶望で崩れる心、これはまさに揺れる水槽と同様である。しかし、そこに十字架という木を投げ入れてみたらどうだろう。」

イエスとペテロが海から舟に乗り込むと、それまでの強風がおさまった。
舟に乗っていた弟子たちは、それを見て、「心の中で、非常に驚いた」、それは彼らが「先のパンのことを悟らず、その心が鈍くなっていたからである」。（マルコ6:51~52）
人は力強い主の業を見ても、それによって信仰の悟りに至ることがない。「心が鈍くなっていた」からである。
「心を鈍い」はギリシャ語 ポーロオー でこの言葉は「石」を意味する「ポーロス」からきている。心を石のように硬くすることで、頑迷・無情な心を指す。悟ることのない鈍い心である。
「鈍い者は知ることができず、愚かな者はこれを悟ることができません」 詩篇92:6 口語訳聖書
主イエスは石のように「鈍い心」を砕かれる。
「しかし、イスラエルの人々の思いは鈍くなったのです。というのは、今日に至るまで、古い契約が朗読されるときに、同じおおいが掛けられたままで、取りのけられてはいません。なぜなら、それはキリストによって取り除かれるものだからです」 Ⅱコリ3:14 新改訳聖書
