＜主人いふ「いな、恐らくは毒麥を拔き集めんとて、麥をも共に拔かん＞
畑に生えた毒麦を「抜くのをお望みですか？」と尋ねる僕たちに主人は「否」と答える。そんなことをすれば毒麦を集めようとして麦も一緒に抜いてしまうかもしれないからである。
＜恐らくは毒麥を拔き集めんとて、麥をも共に拔かん＞
今の段階で毒麦を引き抜こうとすれば、麦まで一緒に「引き抜く ἐκριζόω エクリゾー 根を引き抜く、根こそぎにする」ことになるかもしれない。
主人は苦渋に満ちた決断をする。麦も毒麦もすでに穂を出しており、毒麦を抜けば一緒に麦も抜くかもしれない。両方を残せは、毒麦は実をつけるために麦の養分を奪う。どちらも、麦の収穫に悪い影響を与えることに違いはない。

「麦と毒麦が共に成長する時期」
主人は農作業を熟知している。毒麦を引き抜けば麦も一緒に引き抜かれてしまう。互いに根を絡ませているものを扱うには注意が必要である。
「天の国」の畑でも、麦と毒麦が互いに根を絡ませながら成長する時期がある。毒麦を除こうとして無理に引き抜くのは、良い麦を危険に陥れる行為になる可能性がある。

「猶予」
主人は「毒麦」を惜しむのではない。麦のことを考えてのことである。
この当然の思考を無視して、「毒麦」が自身にも存在意味があるなどと思うのは勘違いもはなはだしい。
直ちに引き抜かれずに、猶予されたのである。

「根こそぎ」
誰が「毒麦」であるかを特定してはならない。教会はしばしば、特定の人を「サタン」呼ばわりし、排除しようとして良き教会員を「根こそぎ」にしてきた。教会は、毒麦をして毒麦たることを明らかにする場である。

そんなことをすれば毒麦を集めようとして麦も一緒に抜いてしまうではないか。
今の段階で毒麦を引き抜こうとすれば、麦まで一緒に「引き抜く ἐκριζόω エクリゾー 根を引き抜く、根こそぎにする」ことになるかもしれない。
主人は苦渋に満ちた決断をする。麦も毒麦もすでに穂を出しており、毒麦を抜けば一緒に麦も抜くかもしれない。両方を残せは、毒麦は実をつけるために麦の養分を奪う。どちらも、麦の収穫に悪い影響を与えることに違いはない。

しかし、「毒麦」は実をつけるために地の養分を吸い上げる。そのため、よい麦は成長をさまたげられるかもしれない。「毒麦」がある限り、畑には禍は続く。
農園の主人は毒麦を急いで抜かなくてもよい。そのままにしておきなさいと指示を与える。
毒麦の成長を上回る良い麦の生命力を信じたのである。農園の主人の決断はよい麦への信頼がなければできないものであった。
「麦畑」は一変して、よい麦と毒麦が成長を競う畑になった。
