かんとせしが聞かざりしなり＞
心して思うべきは、多くの預言者や義人は、イエスの弟子たちが見ているものを見ようとしたが見えず、聞いていることを聞こうとしたが聞くことができなかった。
＜見んとせしが＞
「熱望 ἐπιθυμέω エピとゆメオー」はマタイ5:28では「みだらな思い（ἐπιθυμέω エピとゆメオー）で他人の妻を見る者」で用いられた言葉である。
預言者や義人があれほど「見んと熱望した」こと、「聞くことを強く欲した」が見ることも聞くこともできなかったことを、イエスの弟子たちは見ており、聞いている。

「見ることのできなかったメッセージ」
多くの預言者や正しい人々が「見たかったが見ることができず」、「聞きたかったが聞くことができなかった」こととは、イエス御自身（メシア）についてである。彼らは長い待望の日々を過ごした。そして私たちは「今、ここ」にイエスを見、イエスに聞くことができる。
多くの預言者や正しい人々をして見ることのできなかったメッセージが私の目で見、耳で聞くことのできるものとなった。イエスを見、イエスに聞くことは恵みによる。当然のように見、聞くべきことではない。

「熱望」
「熱望 ἐπιθυμέω エピとゆメオー」はマタイ5:28 では「みだらな思い（ἐπιθυμέω エピとゆメオー）で他人の妻を見る者」で用いられた言葉である。預言者は、例えは悪いが、男が女に向けるあの「熱情、熱望」をもって、見ることを欲し、聞くことを求めたのである。

「飲水思源（いんすいしげん）」
田沢湖畔に「飲水思源像（いんすいしげん）」が建立されている。1991年に田沢湖と台湾の澄清湖が姉妹湖提携した記念に台湾から贈られたもので、若い男が二つの桶に水を汲み天秤で運ぼうとしている。
「飲水思源」は中国の故事成句で「水を飲む者は、その源に思いを致せ」との意味である。
イエスによって知ることを許された我らは「旧約の預言者、義人」の存在を忘れてはならない。我らの飲む井戸は彼らが掘ったのである。

「見ることを熱望する」

心して思うべきは、多くの預言者や義人は、イエスの弟子たちが見ているものを見ようとしたが見えず、聞いていることを聞こうとしたが聞くことができなかった。
「熱望 ἐπιθυμέω エピとゆメオー」はマタイ5:28では「みだらな思い（ἐπιθυμέω エピとゆメオー）で他人の妻を見る者」で用いられた言葉である。
預言者や義人は、みだらな思いで他人の妻を見る者が見んと熱望するごとき熱い想いで、イエスの弟子たちが見ていることを「見たい」と思ったが、見ることは許されず、「聞くことを強く欲した」が聞くこともできなかった。
何故なら、イエスの弟子たちが見て、聞いたのは「イエス」そのものだったからである。
預言者や義人であっても、イエスを見ようとしないで、いかに見ることを熱望しても、見ることはできない。
イエスによる以外にイエスに到達する者は一人としていない。
