心が飽食し、求めを忘れると、その耳は重く、目はもはや開くのも億劫である。心は鈍麻し、何事にも反応しない。しかし、このことは心の飢餓をよしとするのでもない。心の飢餓を経験した者はもはや求めることもしなくなるだろう。

「胼胝」
New International Versionは For this people’s heart has become calloused; と訳すが「callous」は「（皮膚が）硬くなる」で「たこができる」の意味もある。耳にタコができ聞くことに無感覚になるの意である。
勿論、耳にできる「タコ」は蛸ではなく「胼胝」で、角質化した厚い皮膚を指す。「ペンだこ」の「胼胝」のことだ。
同じことを何度も聞かされると、耳が分厚くなり何を聞きいても無感覚、無感動になる。イスラエルの民は神のことばを繰り返し聞いているうちに耳にタコができてしまった。
