イエスはそこにいた弟子たちを指さして「視よ、これは我が母、わが兄弟なり」と言われた。

イエスはご自分をとりかこんで座っている人々を指さされて「視よ、これは我が母、わが兄弟なり」と言われた。
このイエスの言葉は、それまで意識することなくあった「血のつながり」を、「母とは？ 兄弟とは？」というところにすべての人を引き戻す。
「物言わん」として外に立つ者、それをとりつぐ者、そこに座り込む者たちの全員が意識することなく受け入れていたものの意味が問われている。

イエスの集まりに座っていると、突然イエスが私を指差して「視よ、汝はわが兄弟なり」と言われる。すべては、その瞬間からはじまる。

「イエスの家族」
信仰は新しい家族関係に導く。しかし、それは家族から一人離れて、教会という家族に入ることではない。それまでの家族関係を新しくすることである。母マリアと兄弟たちはいつまでもイエスの家族である。
十字架上からイエスは弟子を見て、母マリアに「婦人よ、御覧なさい。あなたの子です」と言われ、弟子に「見なさい。あなたの母です」と言われた（ヨハネ19:26）。
「わたしの命じることを行うならば、あなたがたはわたしの友である」（ヨハネ１５：１４）

「兄弟、姉妹」
教会には同信の者を「兄弟、姉妹、父、母」と呼び交す習慣がある。それは教会の最も美しく、慰めに満ちた習慣である。しかし、そこにも教会の外にある者を「兄弟、姉妹」から外すことによって生じる人間疎外の危険があることを忘れてはならない。
しかし、またそれは、人間がすべて一つの「血のつながり」にあることを意味すれば解決するということでもない。
「血のつながり」という問題が、人を人間とすることの条件として個々の人の前に横たわっているということである。

イエスはご自分をとりかこんで座っている人々を指さされて「視よ、これは我が母、わが兄弟なり」と言われた。
日本の宣教は、教会に人を集める形で始まった。日本人の信仰は「家」を出て「教会」に行くことであった。家族の絆は、教会における「兄弟姉妹」に移されるかのようであった。
しかし、現代にまで続く、日本の教会の在り方は、教会という共同体を出る者には「人の絆を失う」という不幸を生み出すことにもなっている。
教会の教える「兄弟姉妹」はあくまでも教会の内に留まる者のものであり、教会を去るとともに彼は「無縁の者」となって教会の関心を失うのである。
イエスの言われる「父と母、兄弟姉妹」がそのようなものであるか否かを、そして、聖書が神を「父なる神」、イエスを「御子イエス」と伝える信仰を、私たちは見つめ直さなければならないのではないだろうか。
