イエスは病を癒された人に、イエスのことを人々に知らせないようにと言われた。

マルコ並行記事によれば、「けがれた霊どもはイエスを見るごとに、みまえにひれ伏し、叫んで、『あなたこそ神の子です』と言った。イエスは御自身のことを人にあらわさないようにと、彼らをきびしく戒められた。」（マルコ3:11～12）とあり、「我を人に知らすな」の戒めは、直接的には「汚れた靈」につかれた者たちの「叫び」に対するものであるが、同時にそこに居るすべての者に向けられている。

「敵意をおこさせる証し」
元旦の初もうでの神社で、身動きできないほどの参拝者が神殿に向かっている。その行列に立ちはだかるようにして、マイクをもったキリスト教の信徒が「皆さんの行くのは地獄です」と叫んでいる。イエスがこの光景を御覧になれば、「御自分のことを言いふらさないように」とマイクを持った男を戒められるのではないか。
イエスは相手に敵意をおこさせるような「証し」をしないようにと言われるのである。

「迫害を避ける」
イエスは危険が迫っているのを知って、迫害に身をさらすようなことは避けられる。
いたずらに迫害に身をさらすべきではない。しかし、信仰には避けることのできない危険もある。

「己をあらわす」
我々は自分を「己を顯（あらは）になす」にも慎重でなければならない。自分が人に何を「顯（あらは）になした」か、それがどのように伝達されていくかについて無関心であってはならない。人が「顯（あらは）になせる」のは常に己の一部にすぎないからである。

イエスは病を癒された人に、イエスのことを人々に知らせないようにと強く戒められた。
病を癒すことが福音ではなく、癒しは福音の結果に過ぎないからである。
群衆は「奇跡の人イエス」ばかりに注目し、イエスの福音に目を向けようとしなかった。それはイエスに従う者の信仰を著しく損なうものであった。
サタンはイエスに「この石がパンになるように命じなさい」といい、「神殿の頂から身を投げてみなさい」と誘惑した。（マタイ4:1~7）「そうすれば、人間はお前をメシアと崇めるだろう」というのである。
奇跡に群がる信仰（それらはことごとく「奇跡」などではなくまやかしに過ぎない）は今もサタンの誘惑の中にあって、イエスに「そうすれば、私はあなたをメシアと崇めます」と告白しているのである。
サタンの誘惑に応えられたイエスのおられる教会には群衆は群がらないだろう。
教会はこの誘惑をもてあそぶ場であってはならない。
