ダビデはサウルの追手から荒野に逃れていく途中食べるものもなかったとき、ノブの祭司アヒメレクは安息日に祭壇に聖別されたパンをダビデに与え、ダビデと供の者は食べた（Ⅰサムエル21章）。

タルムードによると、神殿の金の机の上には十二個の「供えのパン」が置かれていた。パンは「輪型」であった。（レビ24:5）金曜に焼かれ翌週の安息日に食された。「十二個のパン」はイスラエルの十二部族を意味する。
＜パン＞
「ぱん ἄρτος アルトス」は厚さ２センチくらいの円形のパンである。
ラゲ訳は「麪（ぱん）」をあて、日本正教会訳は「餅」と書いて「ぱん」と読ませる。
＜祭司のほかは、己もその伴へる人々も食ふまじき供のパンを食へり＞
ダビデがソウル王の追っ手から逃れる途中、ノブの祭司アヒメレクに食料を乞うたとき、アヒメレクは「普通のパン」がなかった。しかし、その日、神殿で新しいパンを置き換え、古いパンが取り下げられていたので、祭司だけが食べることになっている「聖別されたパン（取り下げられた古いパン）」をダビデと共にいる者に与えた。（Ⅰサムエル21:1~6）
祭司アヒメレクは武器も持たずに逃走するダビデに「ゴリアテの剣」も与える。（Ⅰサムエル21:8~9） このことがサウルの知るところとなり、アヒメレクはソウル王によって殺される。（Ⅰサムエル22:11~19）

ダビデはこのとき、神の家に押し入って供えのパンを掠奪したのではない。通常のパンはそこになく、祭司アヒメレクに従って、差し出された供えのパンを食べたのである。（Ⅰサムエル21:1~7）緊急時であれば、何でも許されるのではない。
ダビデは神の人の差し出すものを受け取っている。ダビデは敬虔な人であった。

「緊急時」
緊急時には平時と違った行動をとる必要がある。平時に対応できるなら、人は緊急時に迷うことがない。

「勇敢な人」
ノブの祭司アヒメレクは勇敢な人であった。ダビデに「パンとゴリアテの剣」を与えたことで、ソウル王の怒りをかい、殺害されている。
いのちはこうした人々によって守られる。

ダビデはサウルの追手から荒野に逃れていく途中食べるものもなかったとき、ノブの祭司アヒメレクは安息日に祭壇に聖別されたパンをダビデに与え、ダビデと供の者は食べた（Ⅰサムエル21章）。
タルムードによると、神殿の金の机の上には十二個の「供えのパン」が置かれていた。パンは「輪型」であった。（レビ24:5）金曜に焼かれ翌週の安息日に食された。「十二個のパン」はイスラエルの十二部族を意味する。
ダビデがノブの祭司アヒメレクに食料を乞うたとき、アヒメレクは「普通のパン」がなかった。しかし、その日、神殿で新しいパンを置き換え、古いパンが取り下げられていたので、祭司だけが食べることになっている「聖別されたパン（取り下げられた古いパン）」をダビデと共にいる者に与えた。（Ⅰサムエル21:1~6）
律法によれば「供えのパン」を食べることができるのは祭司のみであったが、ノブの祭司アヒメレクは祭司ではないダビデと供の者たちに、安息日に供えのパンを食料として与え、彼らはそれを食したのである。
われわれはダビデの例から、供えのパンを自由に食べられると思ってはならない。
それが「信仰の行為」であると認められるのは神御自身である。
神に従う者は常に緊張感をもって、個々の行為が御旨に適うかどうかを、主に問うのである。
