「小さき者 μικρός ミクロス」は「ほんのわずかな」の意味で、「取るに足りない、未熟な者」である。
イエスの弟子たちはみな「小さき者」であった。

「冷たい水ψυχρός プスゆくロス 」は「取るに足らない」の意味があり、特別な水ではない。

「ミルク一杯」
訪問販売のアルバイトで学費を払っている学生が、ある日、空腹なのに食べるお金がなかった。彼は恥をしのんで物乞いをする決心をした。どこでもいい、次の戸口で何か食べるものをもらおう。ところが、次の戸口を開けたのが美しい娘だったので、彼は頭が真っ白になってしまった。そして、何か食べるものを下さい、と言う代りに彼は「水を一杯ください」と言ってしまった。
けれども、娘は彼を見てあわれに思い、水ではなくミルクをコップ１杯持って来た。彼はそれを受け取り、おずおずと「いくらですか？」と聞いた。「お金なんて！」と彼女は答えた。「善意でして差し上げることでお金をいただいてはいけないと、母に教えられました」。「それでは、心から感謝して頂きます」と若者は答えた。
若者の名はハワード・ケリーと言った。その家を後にしたとき、彼は全身に力が付いたばかりか、神と人間への信頼の気持ちも湧いて来るような気がした。ついさっきまでは、屈服して学業を諦めようかとさえ考えていたのだ。
それから何十年も経ち、あの娘も年老いて、重い病気にかかった。近隣の医者たちには治療の術がなく、その病気の権威として名高い医者がいる大都市の病院へ彼女を送った。医者は、新しい患者の名前と出身地にすぐに気付き、立ち上って彼女を見に行った。見た瞬間、あの女性だと分った。彼は彼女の命を救うために出来る限りのことをしようと固く決意した。闘病は長期間にわたったが、最終的に女性は全快した。
一方、女性の方はたいそう不安だった。入院費が天文学的な金額にのぼることを知っていたからだ。彼女が知らなかったのは、医者が自分に請求書を回すよう指示を出していたことだった。医者は請求書を綿密にチェックした後、彼女にそれを渡す前に、末尾に伝言を書き付けた。
彼女は怯えながら恐る恐る請求書を開けた。たぶん、残された生涯の間ずっと払い続けることになるだろう。やっとのことで目を落とし、巨額の数字の長い列の最後に書かれた記載を見た彼女の驚きは、いかばかりだっただろうか。

「一杯のスプーン」
ユネスコに「一杯のスプーン」というプロジェクトがある。「一杯のスプーン」は１９６０年代にベルギーではじまった運動で、スプーン１杯分の水や食べ物の値段ほどのお金を箱に入れ、貧しい人たちへの医薬品や食料の支援に使った。

「小さき者」
「凡そわが弟子たる名の故に、この小き者の一人に冷かなる水一杯にても與ふる者は、まことに汝らに告ぐ、必ずその報を失はざるべし」 マタイ10:42 大正文語訳聖書
「また、わたしの弟子だからといって、この小さい者の一人に、冷たい水を一杯でも飲ませる人は、あなたたちによく言っておく、必ずその報いを受けるであろう」 フランシスコ会訳聖書
「小さき者 μικρός ミクロス」は「ほんのわずかな」の意味で、「取るに足りない、未熟な者」である。
イエスの弟子たちはみな「小さき者、低き者」である。
しかし、イエスの弟子は自らをことさらに小さくしようとする必要もない。ありのままを認めること、それが自らを「小さき者、低き者」とすることだからである。イエスの弟子とは「心貧しき者」（マタイ5:3）である。
神の遣わされた「小さき人、低き者」の一人を神の御名のゆえに受け入れ、「冷かなる水一杯」を与える人に神は大きな報いを与えずにはおかない。
「冷たい水ψυχρός プスゆくロス 」は「取るに足らない」の意味があり、特別な水ではない。
しかし、神の遣わされた小さき人にとるに足りない水一杯を差し出す人を神は決して忘れ給わない。
