人に神を告白することと、神にそれを為すことでは、どちらが容易いだろうか。人に神を大胆に告白する者も、全知の神を前にしては沈黙し、うなだれるしかない。人は信仰薄き者である。しかし、イエスは人の不完全な告白を、完全なものとして神に告白してくださる。

「識」という漢字は「幟 シ」であり、何かのめじるしによって識別される。
人は何らかの「めじるし」によって神を伝え、神はそれを私の「めじるし」とされる。

「言い表す ὁμολογέω ホモろゲオー」は 「ὁμός 同じ ＋ λέγω 言う」で、「同意する、一致する、承知する、折り合う、合意する、告白する、打ち明ける、公言する、明言する」の意味である。
イエスは人が人々の前でする告白と全く同じことを神に告白される。
人の前で語られる信仰薄き者である私の告白とは何と貧しい告白だろうか。しかし、イエスは人の不完全な告白を、完全なものとして神に告白してくださるのである。
それ故に、私は不完全な信仰の告白を恥じることも、無意味とも思わず、ただ大胆に告白し、間違いが示されるなら大胆に悔改めるのである。
