二羽で一アサリオンにしかならない雀ですら、神の許しがなければ地に落ちない。神はすべてのいのちを守られる。
＜二羽の雀は一錢にて賣るにあらずや＞
「ἀσσάριον アスサリオン」はラテン語 assarius からきたもので、約316円相当の青銅貨。「雀」が二羽買えた。
一アサリオンでは雀は二羽買えたが、二アサリオンだせば五羽になった。（ルカ12:6）おまけに一羽つけるほどに雀は価値のない鳥であった。
＜汝らの父の許なくば、その一羽も地に落つること無からん＞
「καὶ ἓν ἐξ αὐτῶν οὐ πεσεῖται ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἄνευ τοῦ πατρὸς ὑμῶν」は直訳で「しかし、その一羽でもあなたがたの父[の許し]なしには、地に落ちることがない」（皆川私訳）になる。
King James Versionは「and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.」（その一羽でもあなたがたの父なしには、地に落ちることがない）と訳し、
New International Versionは「Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.」（しかし、その一羽でもあなたがたの父の意思なしには、地に落ちることがない）と訳す。
日本語訳では永井訳が「然るに汝等の父の〔許 ゆるし〕なくしては、その一つも地に落つることなし」としてギリシャ語の直訳に近い訳になっている。
「エルサレム聖書」は、「And yet not one falls to the ground without your Father knowing.（あなたがたの父が知ってくださることなく地に落ちることはない）」としている。

価値低い雀の、小さないのちも「父なくしては」失われることはない。神は小さないのちと最後まで一緒である。

「貧者の食糧」
「ἀσσάριον アスサリオン」はラテン語 assarius からきたもので、約316円相当の青銅貨。「雀」が二羽買えた。「雀」は貧民の食糧であった。（ルカ12:6では「五羽の雀は二アサリオン」とあり、当時でも「まとめて買えば安くなった」という）
「貧者の食糧」にも、神の恵みは働く。

いのちに大小の差があるのではない。いのちに貴賤などない。
人が「一アサリオンで二羽」と値をつける雀の一羽をも見守り、養い給う。
自らの魂を軽く見ることは不信仰である。
自らの存在のみを認め、自らに役にたつ者のみを認め、他の存在を無視することも不信仰である。
信仰は神が創られ喜ばれるいのちとの共生を何よりも大切にする。
すべてのいのちは神の祝福のなかにある。
