＜熱心黨のシモン＞
「熱心党 Καναναῖος カナナイオス」はヘブル語「קִנאַה qin’ āh 熱心な」から出た言葉で「熱心党員 ζηλωτής （ゼロテ党員）」を指す。ローマ帝国にたいする過激な抵抗をし、律法を重んじ、祖国の為には死も厭わないユダヤ国家主義者であった。

イスカリオテのユダは銀貨三十枚でイエスを「売った」。マタイ26:15

「イスカリオテ」「カリオテの人」の意味で、ユダの出身地を指す。南ユダヤの村とされるが、特定はできない。「カリオテ」は「都会」を意味する所から、ユダはガリラヤの漁夫の多いイエスの弟子たちの中で唯一の「都会人」として際立つ人物であった。

ユダは初めから「イエスと裏切ったイスカリオテのユダ」と紹介される。だが、この時、ユダ自身イエスを裏切ることになることを知らない。彼は神への「讃美」を名にもつ者であった。イエスを渡す者は神を賛美する者の中から出た。

「イエスの十二弟子」
イエスの十二弟子には、漁師あり、兄弟あり、ボアネルゲ（雷の子・気烈しき人）あり、小さき者あり、収税人あり、熱狂者あり、裏切り者がいた。
キリスト者とは一見してそれと分かる人々ではない。人間のどの地にも神を怖れ敬う人々を見出すだろう。

十二使徒の残りの名前として熱心党のシモンと、イスカリオテのユダが記録される。このイスカリオテのユダがイエスを十字架に売った男であった。
イエスの選ばれた十二使徒の中にイエスを裏切って十字架に渡すユダがいることほど、驚くことはない。
裏切りは最も身近で信頼できる者たちの中から生まれるのである。
「裏切る παραδίδωμι パラディドーミ」は「手渡す、引き渡す」の意味で、ラテン語 tradidit は「引き渡す」の意味し、英語「裏切る betray の語源である。
イスカリオテのユダは銀貨三十枚でイエスを「売った」。マタイ26:15
「ユダ」という名前は「賛美」の意味である。
イエスの弟子になったとき、ユダは自分がイエスを裏切るとは考えていない。かれはユダ「神を賛美する者」であった。
今、自分が神を賛美しているから、イエスを裏切るとは思えないというのは根拠のない考えである。
信仰はどれほど熱心であっても、それによって全うされるものではない。
信仰を全うするのは神の憐れみによるのである。
