「宝」は「蟲と錆とが損はず、盜人うがちて盜まぬ天」に蓄えなさい。「天」とは「蟲と錆とが損はず、盜人うがちて盜まぬ」とろこである。
＜なんぢら己がために財寶を天に積め＞
「天」とは「虫」が喰い、「錆」が腐食しないところの意味である。神の居ますところが「天」である。
＜かしこは蟲と錆とが損はず＞
「虫 σής セース」は「衣類を食べる虫」の意味で、「イガ(衣蛾) Tinea translucens」などを指す。
「イガ(衣蛾) Tinea translucens」は鱗翅目ヒロズコガ科の小型のガで， 幼虫は羊毛，毛皮などを食べ，家屋内や倉庫にすむ。
「さび βρῶσις ブローシス」には「食う」の意味がある。「虫」だけではなく、「さび」も腐食によって、ものを損なう。
＜盜人うがちて盜まぬなり＞
「忍び込む διορύσσω ディオりゆスソー」は「穴を穿つ、下を掘る」こと。パレスティナでは木は貴重で、普通の家は石と日干し煉瓦を粘土で建てられた。強盗は壁に「穴を穿ったり、下を掘って」侵入した。

「富」
「しみも錆も盗人も」損なうことのできないものが「富」である。その為には、持てるものすべて投じても惜しくはない。 老年になると「しみも錆も盗人も損なうことのできない富」を持てるか否かが問われる。

「富は、天に積みなさい」というとき、「天」とは死後の世界としての「天国」をさすのでは必ずしもない。「天国」には地上の「宝物」を蓄える場所もない。
「天」とは神のいますところである。
したがって、「富」は「神のいますところ」に積めと教えられているのである。
主イエスの語られる「宝」とは「その人の心に大切なものとしてあるもの」の意味に他ならない。
しかし現代社会において、人は「物」を「宝」とし、地に積むことを何よりも優先してしまう。「物」は権力の象徴として見られるようになった。
しかし、地に積む「物」は必ず虫が喰い、錆に損なわれる。虫や錆が損なうのは「蓄えられた物」ばかりではない。虫や錆に損なわれる「物」を価値の基準とする「心」はすでに「虫や錆の腐敗」が始まっているのである。
「宝」を神のいますところに積むには、神がどこにいますのかと関わっている。神のいますところに心をおく。そこから価値観の転換が始まる。
この転換は人が自ら始めることのできるものではない、人に心の転換を果たされるのは神御自身である。
