同信の兄弟姉妹を抱擁し、接吻し、喜ぶことにいかほどの意味があるだろうか？ そのようなことは異教徒でもしていることではないか。
＜挨拶＞
ユダヤ人の挨拶は「シャローム 平安あれ」であった。安否を問い、祝福を与えるのが挨拶である。
挨拶を欠くことは相手を侮辱することであり、挨拶を拒むことは敵意のあかしであった。
＜異邦人＞
「異邦人 ἐθνικός エとニコス」は「異教徒」を意味する。同じ信仰の者だけが「善き人」ではない。異教徒も並外れた礼儀正しさをもっている。人はみな異邦人である。自らの内に「異邦人」をもっている。内なる異邦人を抱擁せよ。それができないと異邦人は外の人として立ち上がってくる。
＜税吏＞
漢訳聖書は、「異邦人 ἐθνικός エとニコス」を「税吏」としたことを受けて、明治元訳も「税吏(みつぎとり)」としている。

「挨拶」
「挨拶 ἀσπάζομαι アスパゾマイ」は「強く抱擁する」こと。自分の兄弟だけを「強く抱擁」し、「柵の外の人」とは抱擁しない（できない）のは、あるべきことではない。世界は内と外からなり、内のみ（外のみ）で存在せず、外あっての内、内あっての外である。「柵」は自己である。自己という「柵」を壊してはいけない。人は「柵」を出て内を知り、「柵」に戻って外を語る。

人に出会ったら、安否を問い、祝福を与え、心からの「挨拶」を交わしたい。不安を残すような挨拶はいけない。
漢字の「挨拶」は「相手に身を寄せておしあい、へしあいすること」である。
相手がだれであっても、近くに身をよせ、「おしあい、へしあい」したい。

「異邦人」
「異邦人 ἐθνικός エとニコス」は漢訳聖書は「税吏」、明治元訳も「税吏(みつぎとり)」である。ともにユダヤ人のもっとも軽蔑した人々である。だが、その人々も丁寧な挨拶を交わすのである。
「軽蔑する人々」の「礼儀正しさ」を学べ。彼らは異なる思想、宗教、職業観の人々であっても、優れた人間である。

イエスは12弟子を宣教につかわされるにあたって、「その家に入るときには、平安を祈るあいさつをしなさい」と命じられた。（マタイ10:12 新改訳聖書）
宣教は「あいさつ」にはじまる。
ユダヤ人の挨拶は「シャローム 平安あれ」であった。安否を問い、祝福を与えるのが挨拶である。しかし、自分の仲間と「シャローム」の挨拶を交わすことは誰にでもできる。異邦人でも、彼らの仲間となら相手に祝福を祈ることをしている。
あなた方は相手がだれであっても「平安を祈るあいさつをしなさい」と言わるのである。
「シャローム 平安あれ」は人が出会いにつかう形式的儀礼ではない。
「シャローム 平安あれ」は相手との間に「平安」を創り出す行為を始める決断をもって交わす言葉である。「シャローム」の言葉を聞いたら、平安がなければ「和解」し、互いの心に神を置く交わりをはじめなければならない。
アブラハムがマムレの樫の木のそばで天幕の入口に座っていた時、三人の旅人がアブラハムに向かって立ち止まった。
するとアブラハムは入口から走り出て地にひれ伏し、水をくみ、パン菓子をつくらせ、子牛を屠り、樹の下で三人の旅人をもてなした。（創世記18:1~8）
アブラハムはこのとき99歳であったが、翌年に息子イサクが誕生することが告げられ、又、ソドムとゴモラの審判がアブラハムに告げられる。「三人の旅人」は「主」であった。
