「告発」
迫害は教会の内部に「裏切り者」をも生み出した。同信の者によって訴えられることほど悲しいことはない。
外からの批判に耐えることはできても、内からの告発はしのびがたい。イエスはその悲しみを知っておられる。

「裏切り」
「裏切り」の「裏」は「後ろ側、背面」の意味で、「後ろから切る」の意味だという。味方と思って後ろを見せていたところ、背後から切りつけられることである。後ろも見ずに信じることが信頼ではない。

「憎しみの連鎖」
「目を閉じて、じっと我慢。怒ったら、怒鳴ったら、終わり。それは祈りに近い。憎むは人の業にあらず、裁きは神の領域。－そう教えてくれたのはアラブの兄弟たちだった」 （後藤健二さんが2010年9月7日にTwitterで発信したメッセージは今もリツイートが続いている）後藤さんは祈りながら憎しみの連鎖を断ち切った。

迫害は教会拡大の力になったが、しかし、信徒の中で多くの人々が信仰につまずき、互いに憎みあって信仰から離れた。「裏切り παραδίδωμι パラディドーミ」は、「手渡す、引き渡す、捕える」の意味である。信者が同信の者を売り渡す行為である。
「憎しみ μισέω ミセオー」は「憎む、嫌悪する、憎悪する、厭う、忌み嫌う」の意味である。迫害の中で、教会は外部に反対者の敵意を向けられるだけでなく、内部に「憎しみ、憎悪」を抱え込む。外からの迫害に耐えることができても、内部からの憎悪に耐えることがどうしてで消えようか。真の敵は外にではなく内にある。
教会の内に生じる「憎しみ」の連鎖を断ち切るのは、イエスの「新しいいのち」である。
